Nicely written, I don’t doubt this was sabotage, but let us not give them the benefit of the doubt, let us rejoice in the images it has provided, of oil covered slugs and pelicans and dolphins washing ashore, leading one facebook friend of mine to declare on her status update, “…is wondering how many dolphins per gallon I am getting…” We all feel pain when others are suffering, this is the pain we are feeling because of the massive slaughter going on in the ocean for, as you mentioned the “Levee breaking” plausibility, wasn’t sounding like a bomb going off in the ninth ward.

Michael, my dear Michael, sometimes when I am really missing Todd I will google his name to read and re-read the kind blogs and comments left by so many who only knew Todd through his writing. I know I read this post at least once before but I really read it today – March 7, 2010 – and absorbed it. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for being such a good friend to Todd. He loved you like a brother – actually better than a brother because you became part of our family by choice. Todd was a kind, gentle person who treated and respected his homeless friend Eddie the same as everyone else in his life (except for Boston Red Sox fans). But Todd did not open up to just anyone and he chose you to be his best friend. He would ask me to proof his blogs everyday but it was you that he would run the rough ideas by to help hone into the finished piece. Thank you for being there for Todd those five years and five weeks at work, thank you for being there for Todd those three, long weeks in intensive care, thank you for being there with Todd those last few hours, thank you for being there for me ever since.

I am tired of hearing about John Edwards affair, I dislike the fact that it happened at all. I’m sure Edwards regrets this more than anyone. More importantly the people Obama picks to be in his cabinet will represent Obama in months to come. John Edwards will/would make any position an asset to Obama. I’m hoping that Obama will not hold his affair against him when it comes to protecting our country and doing what is right. The thing that is wrong is that the media made it public, look at some of the other greats that were president and did well in spite of an affair. We are all human and we all make bad calls, so let’s drop this nonsense and move on. Like John has said many times over, “we are better than this.”

I agree with you. The Times quit caring about their readers a long time ago. I spent $1.50 on it today and on page 4 they gave me a list of stories I could get online. Great. If I had a computer in my pocket I wouldn’t have bought a newspaper!

Michael, you raise the important question of whether Obama’s full name will actually be used in an inaugural ceremony. I have the impression that they always do it — that even Jimmy Carter was inaugurated as James Earl Carter. I haven’t checked to confirm this but, at this point, it might almost be more provocative for Obama to ask that his middle name be omitted than it would be for him to use it. I do think that he should use it and that the advantages to this country and to the world of his doing so would far outweigh the disadvantages.
